Old Pen, New Computer, and Upgrading Everything

Hello.

I have a LiveScribe Pulse 2GB pen with Firmware v 2.2. There is content on the pen that I do not want to lose.

I have a new computer running Windows 7 Professional. I do not have LiveScribe Desktop running on any current computer, though I have my old Livescribe data from a prior computer backed up somewhere.

My primary question is that I want to install Livescribe Desktop and download the pen recordings to my computer. I DO NOT want to lose the data on the pen.

What is the proper, safest way to do that?

In the past, I have lost data when my Pen crashed, and I am afraid of losing data from the pen, as it is not stored on Desktop yet.

Some other more specific questions:

* Am I required to upgrade the firmware on my pen to the current version?
* If I upgrade the pen, will I lose my data? (I had lost data once before.)
* Should I instead install an older version of LiveScribe Desktop first?

I'd appreciate knowing the most certain path to installing Desktop and backing up the data safely.

Thanks for your help.

-Mark

Hi,

The easiest and safest way is to install the newest version of LD (www.livescribve.com/install) and dock the pen to the computer.  Once you dock the pen it will prompt you to upgrade the firmware.  After the update it will transfer the data from the pen to the computer.  There have been many versions of LD and firmware that have improved the stability and performance since version 2.2.

Thank you,

Jeff

Jeff -

How are archived notebook handled?  I am moving from a PC to a new MacBook and want to make sure EVERYTHING moves over correctly.  What is best way for me to do that?

Thanks

You will have to export archived notebooks as pencasts and then import them into Mac LD.  Here are instructions on how to export and import pencast files in LD:
